PREMIER DALTON MCGUINTY KICKS OFF “FORWARD TOGETHER” CAMPAIGN

Liberals Promote Strongest Team, Strongest Plan, Strongest Leader — Backed By Results

MISSISSAUGA, ON — Premier Dalton McGuinty kicked off the provincial election campaign today — telling enthusiastic supporters that the Ontario Liberal Plan for a stronger Ontario is working and keeping the province on track and moving forward.

“What we have achieved together is nothing short of amazing. Our health care system is back on track. We have the shortest surgical wait times in Canada. We started North America’s first full-day kindergarten. Our schools are the best in the English-speaking world. And this year we created more jobs than the rest of Canada combined,” said McGuinty.

Key elements of the platform include:

  • · Building the best-educated workforce in the world by creating a tuition grant that takes 30% off the average undergraduate tuition in Ontario, keeping the cost of postsecondary education affordable for lower- and middle-income families
  • · Continuing to raise student achievement in our schools — already ranked the best in the English-speaking world
  • · Helping seniors stay healthy at home — by introducing a Healthy Home Renovation Tax credit and returning house calls for the frail and elderly
  • · Delivering 50,000 clean-energy jobs for Ontario families

The Ontario Liberal Plan has already delivered 20,000 of those new clean-energy jobs, and Ontario is on track to become the North American leader in clean energy. These jobs are at risk because both the PCs and NDP have pledged to cancel clean-energy programs.

“These are uncertain times in the global economy, and Ontario families want to move forward with certainty into a better future. They want a stronger Ontario with a stronger economy to support our schools, hospitals and quality of life,” said McGuinty. “Our platform provides that way forward. Together.”

The Hudak PCs have a $14 billion hole in their platform — that means deep cuts that will put our economy, education and health care at risk. The Horwath NDP would introduce a crushing $9 billion in job-killing taxes. Both would take Ontario off track at the worst time.

“With unrest in the global economy, Ontario families need experience and a steady hand in uncertain times,” said Ontario Liberal Campaign Chair Greg Sorbara. “That’s the kind of strong, certain leadership only Dalton McGuinty can provide — backed by his plan for a high-skills, high-wage economy. There’s only one way to go — forward, together with the Ontario Liberals.”
