Nipigon OPP Weekend Review [Oct 7 to 10]

NIPIGON, ON –During the weekend of October 7 to October 10, 2011 Nipigon and Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP):

  •  Issued 85 Provincial Offence Notices
  • Responded to 46 calls for service
  • Officers conducted 9 R.I.D.E checks
  • Officers investigated 2 Motor Vehicle Collisions.

October 8 at approximately 3:40 p.m. Nipigon OPP investigated a single motor vehicle collision north of Hwy 17 on Camp 81 Road.  The 17 year old male driver of Thunder Bay, Ontario lost control of his pickup truck causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter the east side ditch.  The driver was transported by ambulance to Nipigon District Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.  The two passengers in the vehicle were not injured in the collision. 

Nipigon OPP conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 17, Town of Nipigon that resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver.  October 8 at 7:15 p.m. a Nipigon officer stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence and found that the driver had been drinking.  The 47 year old male driver, Martin MORIN of Nipigon, Ontario has been charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content contrary to the Criminal Code.  The male is to appear in Nipigon Court on January 10th, 2012 to answer to the charge.
