MANITOUWADGE, ON– The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group organizes many fundraisers throughout the year, many of which have become annual events the residents of Manitouwadge very much look forward to.  Think Pink, a fundraising evening of fun and friendship filled with games focused on raising awareness of Breast Cancer had not been held since the original in 2008 (then organized by the Hogan family) was organized once again after much anticipation Friday, October 14th.

Many groups and businesses donated their time and goods to ensure the evening was a huge success. The MCAG was proud to announce that the event had sold out all 95 tickets available, and that all 98 chairs at the event were filled (there is always the concern when selling tickets for a fundraiser that they could be purchased in support of the organization and not with intent to attend).  A half dozen home-based businesses were set up, giving all or a portion of their profits from the evening back to the event. Vendors included Lisa Schutt with Signature Homestyles; Shirley Saasto-Stopyra with Mary Kay Cosmetics; Karen McCauley with Watkins; and even a table from Amanda Gionet the Thunder Bay Representative for UpperCase Living among others.

ONN Editor Karina Hunter spoke with MCAG Volunteer Shelley Hogan during the event, Hogan pointed out that none of the prizes were purchased by the MCAG, whose funds are used exclusively to help Manitouwadge residents dealing with cancer, but were donated by generous businesses and individuals in the community.  Hogan, her daughter Julia and sister Nikkie Chic had a special table set up, with crafts and gifts they provided to raise funds for the Chemotherapy Room at Manitouwadge General Hospital, which had been a goal of Shelley & Nikkie’s Mom Kay who had bravely fought cancer before passing away two years ago.

To donate to the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group, or if you or someone you care about has been touched by cancer and needs help from the MCAG contact any of it’s committee members; President Anne Williams, Vice-President Jackie Jung, Secretary Debbie Ray, Treasurer Darlene Tessier, Betty Oksanen, Priscilla Gray, Nickie Chik, Shelley Hogan, Flo Campbell, or Clare Milks. The request for assistance can also be written by a friend or family member.
