NSFHT Responding to Tragedy at Terrace Bay Pulp

A note to the members of our community:

As with anything we go through in life, we all process traumatic events differently. For people who were involved with the accident at the mill, either first hand, as emergency personnel, or through a loved one that was at work, there is no “right” way to respond to what happened.  Some people may experience trouble sleeping, difficulty concentrating, flashbacks of what happened or what you saw.  If you are experiencing these symptoms, this is normal, if you are not experiencing these, this is also normal.  Everybody’s brain has a different way to respond to trauma.

Natural Recovery for trauma occurs in the effected person’s own personal way.  People may talk or not, they may wish to be with family/friends or alone, they may be emotional or calm, they may think about what happened or may distract from it.  If you are experiencing symptoms, over time these will subside. As soon as possible return to normal activities.   If they do not start to subside after a few weeks, it may be worth while talking with your Family Doctor, the Social Worker with the Family Health Team, a Counsellor at North of Superior Counselling Programs, or a Counsellor through a work EAP program.
