MANITOUWADGE, ON – During the last regular season game of the boy’s volleyball and girl’s basketball seasons, Manitouwadge excelled.

November 2, 2011, the Manitouwadge Wolverines challenged the Michipicoten Vikings on their home court. Having home court advantage was without a doubt, an advantage as all Wolverine teams finished the day off with a win. The junior boy’s volleyball team, coached by Mr. Ted Lalonde and Stevie Wielgosch, served their way to victory as the first game of the day winning all three sets (25-13, 25-10, 15-7). Alongside their win they also earned their spot in the NSSSAA competitions to be held next week.

The senior girl’s basketball team were next to take to the court, determined to finish their season off with great satisfaction. At the end of the last quarter they had done just that, making their coaches Chris and Phil Leduc proud with a final score of 39-13.

The senior boy’s volleyball team had high hopes to not only win their game but to become the hosts of NSSSAA next week. With a three set win by the senior boy’s (25-5, 25-8, 15-5) Mr. Wayne Pittman, Toby Mattson, Bronson Keough, and their team are proud to announce that NSSSAA will be held here in Manitouwadge November 9-10, 2011.

However, this excitement could not compare to the last game of the day when the junior girl’s basketball team challenged the Vikings with an intense game that was tied up at the end of the fourth quarter forcing a four minute overtime. Although it was a close game, the Wolverines pulled through to finish with a score of 23-19 for their first win of the season. Coaches Neil Esarte and staff supervisor Mr. Gord Martin were thrilled with the overall outcome and end to their season.

At the end of the day, all teams put forth a substantial effort that truly paid off. Manitouwadge High School is proud to be representing the Central Division at the NSSSAA competitions for both junior boy’s and senior boy’s volleyball. (See link below for info on all divisional finals).

The Wolverines will be challenging teams from the east and west divisions on Thursday, November 10, 2011 to defend their previous titles, come out to support our teams.
