NIPIGON/SCHREIBER OPP Weekend Review

NIPIGON OPP CHARGE IMPAIRED DRIVER 

NIPIGON, ON –During the weekend of December 2 to December 4, 2011 Nipigon and Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP):

  • Responded to 28 calls for service
  • Issued numerous Provincial Offence Notices.
  • Conducted 4 R.I.D.E. checks
  • Investigated 3 motor vehicle collisions

Saturday December 3, 2011 at approximately 4:40 p.m. Nipigon OPP conducted a traffic stop at Railway Street, Nipigon.  The officer was investigating a traffic complaint and found that the driver of a pick up truck had been drinking.  The driver was arrested and has been charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content contrary to the Criminal Code.

The 74 year old male driver, Harry ZECHNER, of Nipigon, Ontario is scheduled to appear in Nipigon Court on February 28, 2011 to answer to the charge.

December 3, 2011 at 10:45 p.m. Schreiber OPP responded to a call of a single motor vehicle collision at Hwy 17, Steel River Bridge, Tuuri Township.

The driver of a west bound tractor trailer unit lost control and hit a rock cut on the north side of the highway.  Upon police arrival the tractor trailer unit was engulfed in flames causing Hwy 17 to be closed for approximately 3 hours.   Fire and ambulance services attended the scene.  The 57 year old male driver of Chilliwack, British Columbia, was transported by ambulance to McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay for non life threatening injuries.
