MANITOUWADGE, ON – It was exam week for Secondary Schools of the Superior Greenstone District School Board in Northwestern Ontario as students finished their first semester.  With exam week comes free time for most students, after working hard throughout the semester and then putting all their learning to the test with exams, students were ready for some fun.

Four such students are Cody Oseicki, StevieWeilgosch, Derrik Labbee and Devan Pelletier, the organizer of the upcoming 2nd Annual Big Air Rail Jam at Kiwissa Ski Centre.  The Rail Jam is a freestyle snowboard or ski jumping competition, open to all ages, which in 2011 drew snowboarders and skiers from across the region including those from Manitouwadge, Marathon, Schreiber and Thunder Bay among them.

This week, Pelletier announced the completion of the terrain park element of the 2nd Annual Big Air Rail Jam, OntarioNewsNorth.com will visit it for a virtual walk through with Pelletier and a look at the jumps, rails and other challenges which competitors will face.  Having completed the park, Pelletier along with the friends previously mentioned, decided to take their sno-fun downtown to the now abandoned, Manitouwadge Motor Hotel (*Please note this is not the same property listed in the Township’s Hotel RFP – CLICK HERE for that informaiton).

They shoveled and packed snow, rigged up a pulley-system tow to help with the momentum needed to jump off the retaining wall they were hoping to jump and, in the process provided entertainment for many passers-by, including a local OPP Officer who couldn’t resist a drive-by to ensure there was no danger in the fun taking place.
