Life at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Friday, January 27th, students at Our Lady of Lourdes gathered in their school families to celebrate Family Literacy Day. Dressed in pyjamas, everyone met in the “Check-in” area where each family received a suitcase and a passport so they could begin their journey to four different learning stations.

At the Aussie station, the students learned a traditional song from Australia, gaining an understanding of the terms and cultural components found in the song.  In the Waiting Room, the students listened to a story featuring children in different countries, thus learning something unique about their culture.  At Pearson International Airport, the students had to solve some trivia questions pertaining to specific countries; each answer provided a piece of the puzzle they had to assemble.  At the Baking from Portugal station, students decorated and enjoyed eating delicious home baked traditional Portuguese cookies.

As a grand finale to the afternoon, everyone gathered in the gym to sing Waltzing Matilda.  We are grateful to Miss Dzijacky, who “masterminded” this very enjoyable “trip around the world”, and to Miss McCauley and Miss Gorges for their support.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2012 Family Literacy Day at OLOL!
