TERRACE BAY, ON – The students of Superior North and Aurores Boréales (French Language Schools) Catholic District School Boards have provided their students with the invaluable opportunity to receive basic first aid training through the Red Cross People Savers program. People Savers is a 4-level program developed by the Canadian Red Cross to teach safety awareness and first aid skills to elementary school-aged children.

Lessons taught by the People Savers Facilitator are supported by colouring workbooks for each level. Participants follow the People Savers character for each level through a variety of everyday situations that are potentially dangerous and they learn to Check for Safety, Call for Help, and care for an Injured Person. The PeopleSavers mascot is always there to reinforce the safety message: “Prepare! Stay Safe! Survive!”

People Savers Instructor Jim Pope provided the students with knowledge and training to be prepared to attend to a variety of emergency situations in a safe manner. The students learned to assess a situation, who to call for help, as well as how to care and comfort an injured individual in a number of different situations. This training allowed students to gain the confidence and skills that will help them deal with emergencies to prevent further injury and even save lives.
