NIPIGON, ON – Monday April 30 2012 at approximately 6:25 p.m. Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a motor vehicle collision on Hwy 11, Township of Greenstone. A 2011 Dodge pick up truck involved in a wide load escort left the roadway. While receiving assistance from members of the escort to remove the pick up from the soft shoulder of the roadway, the pick up truck struck a second vehicle after the driver collapsed. The driver was assisted by witnesses and shortly thereafter pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 71 year old male driver, Mervyn TOMLIN of Waubaushene, Ontario, was removed from the scene and transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for a post mortem examination
Hwy 11 was closed while police investigated the sudden death.
