MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Manitouwadge High School Athletic Awards Banquet held this Tuesday, June 12th, was organized by the MHS Athletic Association and Head Coach Wayne Pittman with a feast catered by the Dual Credit Hospitality and Tourism class.  The budding culinary talents were taught by local Chef Charrly Killingbeck who shared this information regarding her experience as their teacher…

“This was my first year as a cooking instructor for Confederation College and I had the pleasure of teaching kids the ins and outs of healthy cooking. It’s a great thing that MHS offers a dual credit program for students. It gives people a chance to learn cooking skills and be creative. Also, opens the doors to college by earning a credit in cooking before they graduate. Mr. Pittman, the MHS Hospitality and Tourism teacher, works so hard with all the students and definitely was a huge inspiration for me as well as the students.

This year’s class was filled with accomplishments from the MHS Hospitality and Tourism Class. We started off with only 8 students and we definitely weren’t prepared for all the talent that small class would possess. Every Friday we worked on food labs and created some amazing meals. There were occasions where some items didn’t quite make the cut (Chocolate Day, need I say more) but in the end we were triumphant. Our class catered the Athletic Association Banquet and it was a hit. We had eight less students than last years class but still managed to knock everyone’s socks off. We served everything from pulled pork to cucumber canapés. One of our students graduating this year will be continuing her culinary education at college. A few others have spoken very seriously about searching for careers in the food industry. This was an impressive bunch. They have great ideas and skills that they can carry on in their lives following high school. I’d like to thank Nick Amor, Dalton Callaghan, Ryan Callaghan, Kyle Campbell, Derek Labbée, Lea Leduc, Natacha Lelievre and Courtney Magson for welcoming me to their class. We really had a good time and learned so much from each other.”  Chef Charrly Killingbeck, Teacher Manitouwadge High School

The Athletic Awards Banquet was sold out days prior to the event as those who attended in years prior anticipated the delicacies that might be presented by this year’s Hospitality & Tourism students and they certainly did not dissapoint. The meal was served buffet style to allow attendees the opportunity to try everything that interested or enticed them.  Attendees which OntarioNewsNorth.com spoke with raved about the delicious meal they had been served. Congratulations to Mr. Wayne Pittman, Chef Killingbeck and the students who put together this delicious supper.
