MISSING BOATER LOCATED ON ISLAND – LAKE NIPIGON

NIPIGON,  ON –  June 23, 2012 at approximately 8:10 a.m. Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of an overdue boater on Lake Nipigon.  Officers of the Nipigon OPP with the assistance of the North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP air services, and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) conducted a search of Lake Nipigon throughout the day. 

At 7:00 p.m. the 62 year old male boater of Thunder Bay, Ontario was located by OPP air services on an island at Lake Nipigon.  The boater had been involved in a collision with the island causing damage to his vessel. 

The male was taken from the scene by an OPP marine unit to the South Bay Landing, Lake Nipigon, where he was then transported to Nipigon Hospital by OPP air services for non life threatening injuries.  The male was then transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre in Thunder Bay.
