Town of Marathon July – Things to do and note…

Summerfest:  Summerfest will take place from Friday, June 29 until Monday, July 2.  Check out the Summerfest website (www.marathonsummerfest.com) regularly as the calendar is updated daily with new information, events and contacts or call 229-8216 for more information.  Hope to see you out there!

Canada Day:  Canada Day Activities will be held at Penn Lake Park on Sunday, July 1 starting at noon – there will be inflatable castles, music, cake and so much more.  Come out to celebrate Canada’s Birthday!  There will be a bonfire beginning at 8 p.m. and fireworks will go off at dusk (approximately 10 p.m.).  More information about this event can also be found on the Summerfest website at http://www.marathonsummerfest.com/index_012.htm

Lake Superior Day:  Lake Superior Day is a special day that encourages people to appreciate living next to one of the world’s biggest freshwater lakes.  On the third Sunday of July each year, residents around Lake Superior take time to celebrate what it means to live on the shores of one of the world’s largest lakes.

Payment Options: The Town does not accept American Express as a form of payment except for fuel sales at the airport.  Cash, cheque and debit are accepted for all payments and purchases; Visa and Mastercard are accepted for all payments except for taxes.

Utility (Water) Billing:  The Town is gradually updating its financial software and residents will notice their second quarterly water bill looking different.  The important change is that the new system does not allow for letters in the account number.  All accounts will have 3 zeros at the beginning of the account, then the account number, followed by 3 more zero (000-account number-000).  For residents who pay their account on-line or by telephone banking, the account number will have to be changed with the zeros before the bank can process the payment.

Council Meeting Schedule:  The July Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 16.  Municipal Matters starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Regular Meeting starting at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Visitor Information Centre (VIC):  The VIC is open daily and starting Sunday, July 1, the hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Open to provide visitors with information about our community, they may also be able to help residents with travel information on other destinations.  To contact the VIC, call (807)229-0480, toll-free 1-800-621-1029 for out-of-town callers or e-mailtourism@marathon.ca.
