MANITOUWADGE, ON – Whether you want to sail across the Pacific ocean or just float around Manitouwadge Lake, the people to see for transportation are Mrs. Schleier’s class!  The students have been studying hard and having fun learning about aquatic transportation, more specifically outrigger canoes.

The attention to detail in the students work illustrates their keen interest in the project. Photo MPS

A novel ‘Call it Courage’ by Armstrong Sperry provided them with inspiration for creations they manufactured from clay with an impressive attention to detail; their enthusiasm translated into add-ons to many of the children’s designs including characters  from the story: Mafatu, a 12 year old boy,  the dog Uri, and an albatross named Kivi .

Pictured in the photos provided by Manitouwadge Public School are the proud, young builders with their canoes. This project is a great example of Manitouwadge Public School’s broad academic curriculum and ‘fun while learning’ environment.
