NIPIGON/RED ROCK, ON – During his 25 years of teaching Dallas has coached everything from Cross Country Running to Badminton. Many of his athletes went on to compete at the Ontario Federation School Athletics Associations (OFSAA) level. In addition to his vast coaching experience, Dallas has also convened many North Shore Secondary School Atheltic Association (NSSSAA) and North Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Associations (NWOSSAA) Championships and assumed the voluntary position of NSSSAA President.

Noel mcQueen, a long time friend wrote the following message which gives closer glimpse into the type of person Dallas is:

Dallas,

Congratulations on your retirement! I’m sure this ” retirement” is really just a new beginning for you, as your boundless energy won’t let you sit idle.

I have always admired and appreciated your expertise, enthusiasm, and committment to all athletic endeavours. I remember your contributions to discussions of sport practice and policy at NSSSAA annual meetings as those wise, learned, considerate voice of reason.  You had a quiet way of listening to everything everyone else had to say, and then diplomatically acknowledging all concerns expressed before presenting a solution to whatever problem we were grappling with in a manner that made all present feel heard and respected. This is a rare talent, and one that the profession you are leaving will sorely miss. We need more teachers with your abilities, convictions and inspirational capacity.

You once said that you loved teaching physical education so much that sometimes you could not believe there was a paycheque in your bank account every two weeks. You marvelled that your job had been so much fun that you forgot about the “work’ aspect of it. I remember you as a teacher, and i sincerely hope that in your new life outside school you find a way to feel this way about whatever comes next for you.
