Four People Die In Vehicular Collision on Highway 627

OPP Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision on Highway 627

October 7th, 2012 at approximately 10:24 pm, members of the Marathon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Anishinibek Police Service responded to a serious two motor vehicle collision resulting in four people killed and two people sustaining injuries.  The collision involved two vehicles on Highway 627 approximately eight kilometres south of Highway 17.  Of those who were injured, one female passenger has been transported by air ambulance to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with serious life threatening injuries and a male passenger was transported to Marathon Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

A significant number of emergency personnel responded to the collision including Marathon paramedics, Marathon Fire Department and Pic River First Nation first responders. OPP continue to investigate the collision with assistance of OPP North West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Unit and Provincial Liaison Team (PLT).

The names of deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.  Further information will be released as it becomes available on Tuesday October 9, 2012.
