HIGH VOLUME OF WATER RESULTS IN HIGHWAY CLOSURES

HIGH VOLUME OF WATER RESULTS IN HIGHWAY CLOSURES

WAWA, ON – The Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Detachment advise that Highway 17 between Wawa and White River is currently closed.  The highway has been closed as a result of high levels of water over the roadway near Catfish.  OPP officers at the scene report that the water is eroding the northbound lane of the highway.  Transfield is on scene but repairs to road will not begin until the water begins to recede.

Further at this time Highway 101 has one lane closed just east of Wawa.  Tremblay Flats Road has been affected by the high water levels and is closed due to erosion approximately 3 kilometres from Highway 17.  The Wawa Municipal Public Works Department is currently on scene and working to make the road passable for emergency purposes.

OPP urge the public to remain off the roadways unless absolutely necessary.  A media release will be sent out if any of these roads are reopened.
