MANITOUWADGE, ON – Manitouwadge Best Start Hub Program Coordinator Kristy Lachance was at the Lions’ Beach playground this afternoon to welcome participants to the 2nd of this month’s 2 Beach and Ball Playtime activities. Lachance had a net full of balls of various sizes, textures and colours as well as bean bags, and an exercise parachute in tow in addition to the usual plethera of fun, educational and developmentally beneficial games she offers participants of the Hub’s programs.

In spite of a brisk wind, skies were clear and participants seemed to enjoy themselves thouroughly. Lachance pointed out that “Kids love playing outside in any weather and always benefit from fresh air”.  As summer becomes a more distant memory, it can be tempting to stay indoors, activities like these offered by the Hub encourage parents and caregivers to keep offering their children outdoor play opportunities while making use of facilities within our community like the great playground at Lions’ Beach.

During the session Lachance led a variety of activities for those in attendance including parachute games, a round of “cat & mouse”, and bean bag games.  As is encouraged by early childhood education professionals, Lachance and other Hub facilitators are always attentive to the games initiated by their young participants. In this case as the session went on, play went from more structured games led by Lachance for those in attendance to imaginative play led by an enthusiastic preschool participant.

The Best Start Hub has many great programs running through to the end of October (CLICK HERE for more info) and will have new and exciting programs for families to enjoy in November (watch for that calendar to be published here on OntarioNewsNorth.com when released).  If you would like information on any of the programs and services offered by the Manitouwadge Best Start Hub, visit them at their new location, Room 18 in the lower level of Our Lady of Lourdes School or call 807-826-2883.
