Manitouwadge Hospital Celebrates Medical Radiation Technologists Week Nov 4-10

A Celebration of Canada’s Medical Radiation Technologists

MANITOUWADGE, ON  — Manitouwadge General Hospital celebrates Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) Week, November 4-10, 2012. These nationally certified Technologists are committed to providing empathetic “high-touch” care to patients, while delivering critical “high-tech” services to physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Spotlighting the Professionals who are the Very Image of Care

Marcia Newton, John Oliveira and Vanessa Courtemanche are MRT’s at MGH; just a few of the thousands of MRTs who will be celebrating MRT Week 2012.  Not only are MGH MRT’s certified as Radiological Technologists, but they also provide ultrasound services in a dual capacity.  This level of skills they provide increases the challenges to remain current as equipment and procedures constantly improve.

The MRT profession today includes a diverse array of highly-trained professionals representing various technology-related disciplines in the health care field.  The most common is Radiological Technologists who use x-rays to produce images of body parts and systems. They are expert in the use of complex medical equipment which is used to better differentiate between normal and diseased tissue, while at the same time providing comprehensive, compassionate care to each patient.

Did you know?

  • Diagnostic Department at MGH completes close to 3,000 procedures per year?
  • Each X-Ray is read by a specialist known as a radiologist who can be located anywhere in Canada?
  • In Emergencies, an X-Ray can be read within minutes after being taken as they are shared on the E-health network.
  • Manitouwadge is the only community between Sault St. Marie and Thunder Bay that provides Echocardiograms using state of the art Ultrasound equipment and advanced procedures and Bone Mineral Densitometry Testing.
  • Many local residents have been saved a trip to Thunder Bay or Sault St. Marie for this procedure being done locally.

Manitouwadge General Hospital and the community enjoy high quality staff dedicated to the local residents.  Make sure you thank them for their extra efforts to delivery top quality programs.
