TERRACE BAY, ON – Both the Senior and Junior Boys Wolverines volleyball teams left victorious from the North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) 2012-13 Championships at Lake Superior High School November 7th . Attending divisional champion teams included; junior teams from Manitouwadge (Central), Hornepayne (Eastern) and Nipigon (Western), and senior teams from Manitouwadge (Central), Hornepayne (Eastern) and Geraldton (Western).

To start the day, the Manitouwadge Senior Wolverines played Hornepayne, defeating them 25-11 and 25-22. Next was the Manitouwadge Junior team, who has played many games during their season, including a tournament in Thunder Bay, while not losing one set yet this season. They continued on their winning streak while playing Hornepayne. The junior team came out victorious, winning 25-17 and 25-18.

While both Wolverines teams were taking a break, the Hornepayne seniors and juniors were victorious; the seniors against Geraldton with scores of 25-23 and 25-21, and the juniors against Nipigon with scores of 25-4 and 25-23.

When the Wolverines got back to the court, it was their senior team’s first against Geraldton’s Knights, with scores of 25-14 and 25-18, claiming their spot in the final game. The junior Wolverines found themselves playing against Nipigon’s Lakers for the banner. In the end, the juniors proved victorious, winning the banner for the fourth time in the past five years with scores of 25-10 and 25-2 against the Lakers

While Manitouwadge’s junior boys celebrated their win, the senior boys Wolverines has a final game to play which would decide the banner winner and which team would move on to play in the North Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NWOSSAA) championships. The game was back and forth, until finally the Wolverines won the first set 25-17. The second set was the real nail biter though, but in the end the Senior Wolverines pulled though winning the set 25-23 along with the NSSSAA banner for the third year in a row, and their chance to play at the NWOSSAA championships.

After another week of practice, November 15th and the 16th, the senior Wolverines would be off to play at the NWOSSAA championships in Kenora against St. Thomas Aquinas High School from the NorWOSSAA division and the Denis Franklin Cromarty High School from the SSSAA division, for the chance to move on to the “single A” all Ontario Championships.
