SCHREIBER/TERRACE BAY, ON – The Townships of Schreiber and Terrace Bay are pleased to announce the arrival of a new specialized transit vehicle.  The acquisition was initiated earlier this year when the Joint Handi-Transit committee which includes members from both Townships, issued the recommendation.  The need for a new vehicle was derived not only from increasing maintenance costs on the existing vehicle but also from the opportunity to improve/enhance the service.   Although the operations of the service are jointly shared by Schreiber and Terrace Bay, the cost of both vans was funded entirely through the Provincial Gas Tax program.

“The Township of Schreiber is very fortunate to be eligible for the Provincial Gas Tax.  This was only possible because of the hard work of Michael Gravelle said Schreiber Mayor Don McArthur.  “This is the second unit that was purchased entirely using those funds.  The operation is an excellent example of cooperation between McCausland Hospital and both Townships to deliver a much needed service. “

The new vehicle is a 2012 Chevrolet Express Van with a specialized conversion package that includes:  seating for up to 9 people, a hydraulic lift as well as the ability to transport two wheel chair passengers plus companions simultaneously.

“The replacement of the van will certainly boost this well used shared service for the residents of both Terrace Bay and Schreiber.” noted Michael King, Mayor of Terrace Bay.
