November 18, 2012 – The Confederation College Thunderhawks earned wins in both intercollegiate women’s hockey matches this weekend again the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs in International Falls, Minnesota.

Game one – Saturday, November 17: Thunderhawks 4 – Voyageurs 1

Thunderhawks forward Crystal Duhaime was firing on all cylinders, notching four points in the series opener with two goals and two assists. But it was Devin Bemben who opened the scoring at 16:28 of the first period. Savanna Gamache and Duhaime scored power play goals at 8:44 of the second and 11:33 of the third. Kylie Cornell posted the final marker for Confederation College at 8:21 of the third. Game Two-Sunday, November 18: Thunderhawks 4 – Voyageurs 2

It was all Thunderhawks until 6:40 into the third period, even managing score shorthanded and kill off a two-minute 5-on-3 man advantage for Rainy River halfway through the second. Confederation College scored four straight goals and had solid cushion going into the third period but ran into some more penalty trouble when Rainy River notched their first goal. That seemed to give the Voyageurs some life and they scored another seven minutes later. Crystal Duhaime opened the scoring at 5:11 of the first period and it was Thunderhawks captain Amber Butler who took the wind out of the Voyageurs power play sails by scoring during their 5-on-3 power play at 10:42 in the second period. Devin Bemben and Kylie Cornell scored twenty seconds apart at 15:42 and 16:02 in the second. The Thunderhawks once again outshot Rainy River, this time it was 37 to 10. Savanna Gamache and Marnie Robinson tallied assists and Marilyn Doggett earned a win in her first start between the pipes for Confederation College.

The Thunderhawks are 9-3-1 since their October 12 season- and home-opener.

Confederation College’s next game action is Saturday, November 24 against the NipRock Midget Rep Team in Nipigon.
