Thunderhawks vs. Nip-Rock Midget Girls – Nov 24 Women’s Hockey Recap

NIPIGON, ON – The Confederation College Thunderhawks earned a win on a short road trip to Nipigon, beating the Nip-Rock Midget Girls Rep team 6-1 tonight at the Nipigon Arena.

Thunderhawks’ Crystal Duhaime opened the scoring at 11:25 of the first period; Marnie Robinson followed up just over a minute later. After about nine minutes of rather scrambled end-to-end play, things tilted back in favour of the Thunderhawks. Savanna Gamache scored the next goal for Confederation College with 57 seconds remaining in the first.

Nip-Rock came to life at the beginning of the second and scored 12 seconds after the puck dropped. No other goals were scored until 17:39 of the third, when Gamache sniped her second of the game. Robinson scored 11 seconds later and the Thunderhawks regained their form to dominate the period. Kristen Bartlett scored the final goal with 15:31 remaining in the third.

Jessica Taggart earned two assists and (for her) a rare two minutes for roughing as things got chippy towards the end of the game. Amber Butler, Kristen Bartlett and Courtney Easton had helpers for the Thunderhawks.

Confederation College’s next game action takes place on Monday against the Lakehead University Thunderwolves women’s squad.
