Terrace Bay Talks Jobs

Meeting with Terrace Bay Employers

TERRACE BAY, ON –  Wednesday December 12th, the township held a meeting with its largest employers to discuss the ongoing economic boom in the community.  The local job bank continues to be filled with available positions and municipal staff presented some of the activities they are undertaking to assist businesses trying to hire.

Regional Partners – Northwest Employment Works and the North Superior Workforce Planning Board were also in attendance to explain their services and suggest possible solutions.  Owners and human resources staff from the businesses in the area were given a forum to explain some of the issues they had with recruiting, what methods they have tried, and then participated in a brainstorming session on ways the Municipality can help.  Chief Administrative Officer Carmelo Notarbartolo says – “Terrace Bay is seeing positions available in many different sectors including forestry, healthcare, and the service sector.  We are very encouraged by the great feedback from our businesses and institutions on the issue.  A report will be developed for council in the New Year with an action plan as to how the Town can expand on the services it currently provides to assist our business community.”  The Municipality provides a free of charge job bank in the community that is shared with neighbouring Schreiber for businesses to post jobs.

Terrace Bay also assists with a lifestyle webpage designed to answer any questions someone may have in moving to the Community with answers on healthcare, real estate, and education.  The Municipality also offers community tours to new residents, attendance at job fairs, and development of information packages to be sent to interested employees.  One of the issues most often cited was the limited housing in the Community, especially executive housing.  CAO Notarbartolo says “With the stability of the $250 million investment by the $40 billion Aditya Birla Group in our Community we continue to see good things happen.  A number of houses were sold in the months after the mill purchase and now we are evaluating possible solutions to a high demand for housing.”  For more information on Terrace Bay, visit www.terracebay.ca.
