In 2008, Liam Neeson thrilled movie watchers across the country with his convincing performance of a desperate father searching for his kidnapped daughter. The familiar quote “If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you”, drew movie goers to the theatres in droves as Taken raked in over 220 million dollars at the box office.

Fast forward to today and Agent Mills is back in action in Taken 2, which debuted on DVD and Blu-Ray this morning! The week features seven new releases in total with a brief synopsis of each below;

NEW RELEASES ON DVD & BLU-RAY

Taken 2: starring Liam Neeson– Retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper that Mills killed while rescuing his daughter. (Action) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

House at the End of the Street: starring Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieriot– A mother and daughter move into a new house and find themselves living next door to a residence where a young girl murdered her parents and the surviving son now lives alone. Stolen: starring Nicolas Cage and Malin Akerman– After being released from an 8 year prison stint for stealing millions of dollars, a man’s daughter is kidnapped by his ex-partner who wants his cut of the money. (Action) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Possession: starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan– Based on a True Story- A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that it contains a malicious ancient spirit that starts to take hold of her. (Horror) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Won’t Back Down: starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis– Based on a True Story- A devoted teacher and a determined mother team up to try to bring change to their children’s struggling inner city school. Facing political red tape and backlash, they will stop at nothing to save their children’s educational future. (Drama) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

To Rome With Love: starring Alec Baldwin and Penelope Cruz– The intertwined stories of groups on individuals as they live and visit day-to-day in Rome, Italy. Directed by Woody Allen. (Drama/Romance) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Talhotblond Based on a True Story– A married father of two young daughters gets seduced by the world of online gambling and chat rooms, where a virtual romance leads to deadly consequences. (Drama) (DVD)

FOR THE GAMERS

Devil May Cry– Play as Vergil in a brand new chapter of the  Devil May Cry adventure. With fierce new weapons, combos and never before seen content, players will unravel the enthralling, untold story of Dante’s twin brother. Also includes the exclusive samurai weapons pack and character perks. Available to rent or buy for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Golden Globes Wrap-Up

True movie buffs really enjoy this time of the year. Why? It’s Award Season! The first big Awards show of the year aired Sunday evening- The Golden Globes- and a number of movies and performers were awarded for their efforts. Here is a brief recap of some of the winners:

  • Actor in a Comedy or Musical:  Hugh Jackman for his performance in Les Miserables
  • Actress in a Comedy or Musical: Jennifer Lawrence for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook
  • Actor in a Drama: Daniel Day-Lewis for his performance as Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln (rumored to be releasing on DVD and Blu-Ray in February)
  • Actress in a Drama: Jessica Chastain for her performance in Zero Dark Thirty
  • Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz for his performance in Django Unchained
  • Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway for her performance in Les Miserables
  • Best Animated Movie: Brave- featuring the voice of Kelly Macdonald. Available now to rent or buy!
  • Best Picture – Drama:  Argo- starring and directed by Ben Affleck. This movie, centered around a CIA secret op  in Iran, makes it’s DVD and Blu-Ray debut in February.
  • Best Picture – Comedy or Musical: Les Miserables starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.

It was a good night for Les Miserables with 3 major awards! The musical, based on the well known novel and Broadway play, has made over 100 million dollars at the box office! No word yet on a DVD release date…
