Joint Review Panel Invites Public Comment on Public Hearing Procedures for Proposed Marathon Platinum Group Metals and Copper Mine Project

January 31, 2013 – The Joint Panel reviewing the proposed Marathon Platinum Group Metals and Copper Mine project invites the public to comment on the draft Public Hearing Procedures (CLICK HERE for draft Public Hearing Procedures on CEAA Registry)

The Panel is seeking written input from members of the public, Aboriginal groups, and governments on the Public Hearing Procedures which detail how the upcoming joint review panel hearing will unfold. After reviewing the comments received, the Panel will issue a final version of the Public Hearing Procedures.

The Panel is proposing to hold three different types of hearing sessions during the public hearing. The public hearing will consist of Community, General and Topic-Specific hearing sessions. Everyone is welcome to attend all hearing sessions.

General hearing sessions are proposed to be held in local communities to facilitate participation of local residents in the hearing process.

Community hearing sessions are proposed to be held in communities of potentially affected Aboriginal groups to facilitate participation of First Nation and Métis people in expressing their views to the Panel in an informal setting.

Topic-Specific hearing sessions are proposed to allow experts who possess specialized knowledge or expertise an opportunity to present technical information to the Panel and to allow for scrutiny of the technical aspects of the project.

The Panel must receive written comments on the draft Hearing Procedures by March 1, 2013. All comments received will be considered public and posted on the online public registry. Forward your written comments in the official language of your choice by email or fax to the attention of either panel co-manager:
