MANITOUWADGE, ON – Director of Community Services Paula McCloskey was pleased to share news this week of the return of Rubber Duck Hockey (RDH). RDH was initiated by parent volunteers Kerri Jackson and Nicki Chic in November when the pair realized there were a significant amount of children who, though interested in having some hockey-type fun were not necessarily interested and/or ready to be part of Minor Hockey.  (Read the full article here) When the arena schedule for January came out, many people were dissapointed to see the Friday evening Rubber Duck Hockey had been replaced by public skating.

Community Services Director Paula McCloskey, upon learning there was interest in the program continuance spoke with those involved as well as with staff regarding the feasibility of returning RDH to the arena schedule.  “If there is interest in a program we [Community Services Dept.] will certainly work with those involved to see how we can help” said McCloskey adding that she looked forward to meeting community members and volunteers “I encourage anyone who has questions about programming or ideas for new programs to get in touch”.

Though McCloskey has only been in her position as Director of Community Services for a month, she has already met with representatives from several service groups/sports clubs in Manitouwadge,  including Lisa Schut, President of the Kiwissa Ski Club  and Denis Bellerose, President of Manitouwadge Minor hockey Association, and said she intends to meet representatives from each and every local club in a timely fashion.
