TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT RESULTS IN CHARGES

NIPIGON, ON – December 31, 2012 at approximately 1:10 p.m. officers of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Cemetery Road, Township of Nipigon.  Two vehicles collided at a corner on the roadway.  The 55 year old female driver of a hatchback car and the 64 year old male passenger, both of Rocky Bay First Nation, Ontario, were transported to Nipigon Hospital for injuries sustained.  The 33 year old male driver of a passenger van of Nipigon, Ontario, was not injured.  Officers continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

December 31, 2012 at 9:50 p.m. while conducting radar patrol on Hwy 11/17 west of Nipigon, Township of Stirling, a Nipigon OPP Officer observed a motor vehicle travelling west bound at a high rate of speed.  As a result of the speed a 28 year old male driver of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle While Performing a Stunt, Speeding 50 km/hr or more contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.  Further to this offence, the driver’s license was suspended and vehicle impounded for 7 days.  The driver is to appear in Nipigon court on March 11, 2013 to answer to the charge.

January 2, 2013 Nipigon OPP investigated a single vehicle collision east of Nipigon at Hwy 17, Township of Wiggins.  The driver of a west bound motor vehicle lost control and struck several guard posts before coming to a stop on the west side of the highway. The 19 year old male driver of Fort McMurray, Alberta has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
