Amber Alerts Via Text Messaging

MARATHON ON – The Ontario AMBER Alert program is a voluntary cooperative plan between radio/television stations, the Ministry of Transportation, and Ontario law enforcement agencies. It calls for law enforcement agencies to provide media outlets with critical information concerning a suspected child abduction, which could assist in locating the child.

Canadian wireless subscribers who can receive text messages may sign up to receive wireless AMBER Alerts by registering at www.wirelessamber.ca. Subscribers will need to provide their 10-digit wireless phone numbers and designate the area for which they want to receive the wireless AMBER Alerts.

Wireless subscribers in the Marathon area are able to subscribe and therefore extend the search area. The quick dissemination of AMBER Alerts is crucial and wireless technology is at our finger tips, so to say, so why not utilize it in all parts of Ontario. Wireless Alerts appear on your wireless device in the same manner as any other text message. The message would be received from short code number 26237 (AMBER) at no cost to the subscriber.
