CROSSOVER INSIDER – New Release Movies and Games + Academy Award Predictions

I’ve mentioned it a number of times already, but the movie industry’s biggest award show is just around the corner. The Academy Awards are a time to honor the year’s best and one of this week’s new releases is sure to garner some attention. Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, Argo is a gripping true story about the American hostage crisis in Iran and how Canada played a pivotal role in the mission to save them. Argo is a candidate for best picture competing against the likes of Silver Linings Playbook, Django Unchained, Life of Pi and Lincoln.

There are twelve new releases this week with a brief synopsis of each below;

NEW RELEASES ON DVD & BLU-RAY

Argo: starring Ben Affleck – During the hostage crisis in Iran, a CIA employee concocts a plan to rescue six American embassy employees by creating an elaborate fake movie scheme. Based on a True Story. (Drama/Suspense) (DVD and Blu-Ray) ALSO AVAILABLE AT 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge.

Fun Size: A teen girl’s plans to attend a party are thrown into peril when she is forced to babysit her little brother. But when she brings him to the party and he runs away, she must locate him before their mother finds out he’s missing! (Comedy) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Package: A courier for a local crime lord must deliver a mysterious package while being chased by a team of gangsters. (Action) (DVD and Blu-Ray) ALSO AVAILABLE AT 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge.

Seal Team Six: A group of US Navy Seals scour through Afghanistan and surrounding areas in search of their target- Osama Bin Laden. They must overcome the harsh conditions to capture their target and bring peace to their country. (War) (DVD)

Courier: A specialist carrier is hired to deliver a mysterious briefcase to the underworld’s most dangerous hitman. (Action) (DVD
and Blu-Ray)

Horrid Henry: After once again failing to hand in his homework, Horrid Henry is faced with a series of events that force him make an alliance with the annoying girl next door. (Family) (DVD) ALSO AVAILABLE AT 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge.

Lake Placid 3: A poacher discovers that a local lake is inhabited by crocodiles. And not just any crocodiles – man-eating crocodiles! (Horror) (DVD)

Mass Effect Paragon: An untold chapter in the Mass Effect saga, following the early career of James Vega, as he leads a squad of elite special forces into battle against a mysterious alien. (Sci-Fi/Animated) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Snowtown Murders: A young man befriends his mother’s new boyfriend and his crowd of self-appointed neighborhood watchmen; a relationship that leads to a spree of torture and murder. Based on a True Story. (Crime/Drama) (DVD)

FOR THE GAMERS

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance: A fast paced action game whose campaign moves as quickly as it’s excellent combat sequences. Along the campaign, you’ll encounter sword-fights, team up with an A.I. dogm explore a science facility with a remote-controlled robot, leap over missiles to chop up helicopters, and fight a metaphor for American evil. Available to rent and buy for PS3 and 360.

Crysis 3: Cursed with visions of a catastrophic future for mankind, Prophet returns to New York City determined to battle the corrupt Cell Corporation and the alien Ceph. Crysis 3 arms players with high-tech weaponry including the upgraded signature Nanosuit, fantastic new alien weapons and a new, silent tactical, high-tech composite bow to become the deadliest hunter on the planet.

It’s time to dust off the ol’ crystal ball and make some Academy Award predictions! Here are my picks for the winners in the major award categories:
