MANITOUWADGE, ON – Monday, June 10th the Manitouwadge High School Senior Band held their annual end-of-year concert fundraiser and a bake sale.  Opening for the band was the Grade 9 Music Class (video below) and also a quartet that performed keeping the audience entertained during a short intermission; Brighton Lal, Gunnar Nelson, Damilola Bodunde and Nick Forgues (their cover of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Californication  is at the beginning of the “MHS Senior Band” video).

The concert was the band’s last opportunity to perform in front of a live audience prior to their trip this week to play at the Festival of Music at Canada’s Wonderland in Toronto.  MHS Music Teacher and volunteer conductor of the Senior Band Pat Lalonde was very proud of the kids’ dedication pointing out that most of the young musicians had not even taken music this semester (or year) a many had to opt for the courses they needed in preparation of their post secondary education, also because most of the senior students also have part-time jobs the only time available for them to practice together was early in the morning before classes begin.  Their daily 8am practices had clearly paid off however as the band performed a thouroughly entertaining concert, audience members commenting, as the performance ended, on how much they enjoyed the show.

CONGRATULATIONS! To the MHS Senior Band on their successful fundraising (in addition to Monday’s Concert and Bake Sale they hosted a car wash the preceeding weekend which raised another $1000) and diligent efforts they put in to reach their goal of playing at the 2013 Festival of Music; this ability to persevere and dedicates yourselves to a cause will no doubt serve you well as you continued forward in your post-secondary studies – wishing safe trip during which life long memories are made!
