UPDATE: Industrial Road Manitouwadge-Greenstone — (Incl. Petition Circulating for Limited Time)

NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO – A petition demanding action from government representatives (partial image above),  in regards to maintenance of the Industrial Road connecting Manitouwage to the Municipality of Greenstone, providing access from Manitouwadge to Hillsport (and vice-versa),  and to the Via Rail stop in the latter community (among other things), is currently cicurlating in a number of Northwestern Ontario communities including Geraldton (Mun. of Greenstone) and Manitouwadge.

It is also worth noting that some Hillsport residents see a family doctor or dentist in Manitouwadge, do their groceries/purchase pharmaceuticals in Manitouwadge, receive their mail at the Canada Post office there, etc. as these services/products are not available in their isolated community.

Though, as mentioned, there is no specification in regards to whether the petition is intended for municipal or provincial respresentatives,  many people are seeing it as a useful tool, signing in the hopes that it will, when submitted, call their representatives to action in regards to creating a long-term maintenance strategy for the road which many consider a tertiary highway (though it is not paved and whether this had been, at one time, an official designation is currently being researched).

OntarioNewsNorth.com is currently waiting for a response from one of the residents responsible for circulating the petitions in regards to when they intend to collect the petitions, whom they will be presenting them to and a complete list of communities in which they can be found, this information will be shared immediately once received.
