MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Township of Manitouwadge is currently in possession of three domestic cats, picked up over the course of the summer, who are in need of homes [Photos/details regarding individual cats provided by Township].  The cats shown in the provided photos are domestic animals which the by-law officer believes, based on professional experience and opinion, could make good pets in the right home. All three felines are very friendly. If you are considering getting a cat as a pet, why not call the Township to see if one of these cats would be a good fit as your companion.

Residents of Manitouwadge should remember that there is a by-law in place (CLICK HERE for Twp of Manitouwadge Cat By-Law 2003-10) stating that cats must be registered and are not to be permitted to run at large.

Domestic cats permitted to run at large can have a variety of negative/unfortunate results including, but not limited to:

  • destroying gardens by digging or eating plants, flowers, etc.;
  • damaging/contaminating children’s sandboxes which they mistake for litter boxes;
  • catching and spreading diseases to other feral animals or to domestic animals;
  • becoming wild and/or aggressive towards humans or domesticated animals;
  • suffering (and eventually dying) in the wild – most domestic animals do not have the instincts and/or skills necessary to survive in the wild
  • may be euthanized (whenever possible, the township tries to match unclaimed, domestic cats with a good home/responsible pet owners)

Cats left to run at large also present a danger to people, especially children, who could be injured when trying to befriend an animal (even a timid domestic cat can react unpredictably) if it feels threatened or is surprised.

If you would like to give one of these animals a foster or full-time home (they cannot be kept indefinitely) please contact the Township of Manitouwadge at (807) 826-3227 ext.244

This beautiful grey black tabby cat was found at the airport in July; it is very friendly and would be a loyal friend to someone able to give it home. Submitted photo
