One of the surprise hits of the theatrical summer blockbuster schedule was a star studded ensemble about a group of magicians who perform elaborate shows where money is stolen from various targets and given to their audience members. Now You See Me opened on May 31st to a moderate total 29.2 million dollars but strong word of mouth helped escalate the final box office tally to over 115 million! Now You See Me is the headlining act this Tuesday in a week that features a total of nine new releases.
Here is a brief synopsis of each of this week’s new movies;

Now You See Me: starring Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson and Mark Ruffalo – A pair of detectives track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money. Empire State: starring Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth – A young man gets a job with a armored car company that has less than impressive security measures to protect the large sums of money in their care. Lords of Salem: directed by Rob Zombie – A small town radio DJ is sent a mysterious box containing a record with a label “gift from the Lords”, which triggers a series of flashbacks of her town’s violent past. (Horror) (DVD) Also available at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Hammer of the Gods: A young man transforms into a brutal warrior as he travels the unforgiving landscape in search of his long lost brother, whose people are relying on him to restore order to their kingdom. (Adventure) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Slightly Single in LA: After a series of failed relationships, a young woman living in Los Angeles reflects on her history with men as her good friend prepares to be married. (Romance/Comedy) (DVD) trailer not available
Stranger Within: starring William Baldwin: While on vacation, a husband and wife are startled when a young woman appears at their door bloody and claiming to have lost her boyfriend in a hiking accident. The man takes her in leading to a series of escalating events. (Thriller) (DVD)
FOR THE GAMERS
Diablo 3: The incredibly popular PC game finally arrives on PS3 and 360 this week. An action role-playing game that takes place throughout the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary where you play a hero who engages in fast-paced combat that tests your reflexes and rewards tactical decisions. As you slay hordes of monsters and challenging bosses, you grow in experience and ability, learning new skills and acquiring items of incredible power. Available to rent or buy for PS3 and Xbox 360.
