SCHREIBER, ON – The Schreiber Public Library held juding for their 2nd Annual Sunflower Growin Contest at the  St. Andrew’s United Church Fall Days on September 7th.

People had been provided sunflower seeds from the library to grow and then, after a summer of tending to their plants, brought their submissions to the Fall Days where they were measured and weighed.  The youngest competitor was 4 year old Carter Nesbitt.  The contest also included categories for jellies & pickles as well as special prizes for squash, pumpkins and unusually shaped vegetables and fruits.

In addition to the official contest divisions, listed below with their winners, there was also a “Guess The Weight” contest won by Thomas Howe with his guess of 15 lbs.;  and the Silent Auction Winner was Georgette Cebrario.

Congratulations to all those who participated in this fun and friendly competition, the library hopes to continue offering the Sunflower Growing Contest in future years.
