It’s really hard to believe that we’re already in the month of October! Almost time for the ghosts and goblins go knocking on doors in their yearly search of candy. October also usually means a full slate of great new movies- and this October is no different. With titles like The Heat, Hangover Part 3, The Conjuring, Pacific Rim, Monsters University and so many more, I expect this to be one of the best new release months of the year to date. This week starts off in fine fashion with eight new releases in total. Here is a brief summary of each;

NEW MOVIE RELEASE TRAILERS

This is the End: starring Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel and James Franco (as themselves)- While attending a party at James Franco’s house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and their friends find themselves faced with the impending apocalypse. The Croods: featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone- After their cave is destroyed, a family of cavemen team up with an imaginative boy in a quest, where they encounter new friends and new creatures. Frozen Ground: starring Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and Vanessa Hudgens- After a young woman escapes from the clutches of a serial killer, an Alaska State Trooper seeks her help in order to gather enough evidence to bring the killer to justice. Return to Nim’s Island: starring Bindi Irwin and Matthew Lillard- Nim and her father are faced with a dilemma when they receive a letter stating that someone is planning to buy their island to build a tourist attraction. But Nim makes a plan to prevent the island from being sold- and to save her home. (Family) (DVD)

Contractor: starring Danny Trejo- A busy couple hire a contractor to remodel their new home. After growing suspicious of the contractor, the couple discover that he’s got some secrets that could put their lives in jeopardy. (Thriller) (DVD)

English Teacher: starring Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear- A single, private, 40 year old English teacher finds her routine life disrupted when a former student returns to town with plans of abandoning his dreams. (Drama) (DVD)

Fright Night 2– A group of high school students travel to Romania for their studies- where they meet a mysterious professor who is secretly a vampire by night. (Horror) (DVD) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge! Trailer not available

Morning: starring Jeanne Tripplehorn and Laura Linney- A story taking place over the course of five days in the life of an American couple as they struggle with grief and forgiveness immediately following the tragic accidental death of their child. (Drama) (DVD)

FOR THE GAMERS

NBA 2K14: After receiving more than 38 Sports Game of the Year Awards, NBA 2K13 set the bar high for its 2014 counterpart. With even more realistic graphics and additional gameplay features, NBA 2K14 should deliver on the anticipation. Available for PS3 and Xbox 360.
