MANITOUWADGE, ON– Thursday, October 10th, Fire Chief Owen Cranney and the Manitouwadge Volunteer Fire Department welcomed residents to the fire hall for their annual open house in recognition of Fire Prevention Week 2013 for which the theme was “Help Prevent Kitchen Fires”. In addition to cake and refreshments, take-a-way bags stuffed with a variety of fire prevention information for kids and adults as well as other goodies, tours of the trucks and demonstrations of equipment, this year the department had new fire safety videos playing for the kids.

Superior North Victim Services’ Manitouwadge volunteers also had a table set up with information for those interested.  Victim services volunteers often work alongside the volunteer fire department when responding to residential calls “Superior North Victim Services responding along side the Fire Department at residential fire calls means they can provide the residents with information regarding services they may need as a result of the fire while firefighters can focus on fire extinguishing and/or rescue” explained Fire Chief Owen Cranney.
