So…it really is October now! And at the Drop In that means ….Turkey Pies!!!
We know many of you and your friends want to get in on the goodies. What that really means is that all of you need to get your orders in since we only make to fill them. To make on spec when we do not know whether we need 10 pounds or 150 pounds of turkey is just too expensive an undertaking. We will get your money when you pick up your pies in late October. ($10 for the 9” and $4.00 for the 4” ones.)
But we do need your order by October 21 at the very latest and would like them earlier. You can call any week day afternoon to 705 856 7394 and give us your name, telephone number and the size and number or pies you want. Or you can drop in instead. We need your telephone number to let you know when your pies are ready to take home, frozen or freshly put together. You get them with cooking instructions but you get the job.
We also need your help since there is a lot of work to do in the course of six days over two weeks. (October 21, 22, 23 and 28, 29, 30)
On the Mondays we need the turkey wrestlers who get the big birds ready to go into the oven by removing some of the bones. The chefs then roast the meat and boil up the bones for soup makings (used at a later luncheon).
On Tuesdays we make the crust and the filling. So, we need the magical mixers to turn the 15 pound of shortening and the other ingredients into great pastry. We also need the cutters, slicers, and dicers to deal with 60 pounds of meat, 25 pounds of potatoes, 6 pounds each of onions and carrots and 3 bunches of celery. When we put the filling into the crusts and bag and tag the actual pies on the Wednesdays, we really need the big crew: holy rollers, runners, crimpers, painters and baggers.
We start at 9:00 a.m. and are usually done about lunch time. There are coffee breaks and lunch and a million bosses to deal with, so we have a lot of fun and some goodies. We also deal with the inexperienced. And many hands make some work lighter.
We would appreciate your dropping in to give us a hand. And we really would like your order as soon as possible!
