NORTH BAY, ON – At the end of round robin play the Manitouwadge High School Wolverines met their goal- making the playoff round at OFSAA. In 2011, the team failed to win a match. This team however battled with the best in the province and faired very well. The first match of the tournament was against the team from YRAA- after battling very hard the Wolverines eventually fell 25-21, 25-15. This team finished third overall at OFSAA. In the second match of the day the Wolverines took on St. Michael’s Choir and won easily 25-15, 25-12.

Friday morning the Wolverines again came out a little flat and fell to the 2nd ranked team at OFSAA – Louis Riel. This team was very beatable, but the Wolverines could not put together a sustained run and fell two straight. In the afternoon at West Ferris Secondary School, the Wolverines beat the Kings to finish 3rd in their division. This meant that the MHS squad would play in the 4:30 game against St. Joseph from EOSSAA in the consolation round. The Wolverines prevailed in 4 sets. This meant a semi-final match up against the U of Toronto Schools on Saturday morning. In the first set the Wolverines led until the Blues tied it at 17 where they went on a mini run and knocked off the MHS team 25-21. The Wolverines dropped the next two sets 25-18, 25-19.

The U of T Blues lost in the Consolation Championship to the same Kings that the Wolverines defeated on Friday.Overall the MHS team is very proud of their accomplishments and are looking forward to next year. A special thanks to the businesses and organizations who donated $ to help the Wolverines with their OFSAA trip. The Wolverines would also like to thank their parents and volunteer drivers for taking them on out of town tournaments and help in the canteen during sports days.
