MANITOUWADGE, ON – March 26th was designated as World Wide Epilepsy Awareness Day and certainly the students and staff at Manitouwadge Public School had more than one reason for jumping in with all they had.  We have one little trooper in our school – Miah Wheadon – who has a very personal reason for wanting to spread epilepsy awareness to people.

Miah is a grade 2 student who suffers from Gran Mal seizures and is the centre of Team Miah for Manitouwadge.  She presented her classroom peers with an educational and very well-done overview of seizures, what they are and what to do if you see someone having an epileptic attack.  The whole school enjoyed brochures about epilepsy and of course cupcakes with purple decorations. One little student was the lucky winner of the book  ‘Violet’s Special Day’ which is about a little girl who suffers from epilepsy.

It was great to see all the staff and so many students come out dressed in purple, decorated in purple, and some were even sporting purple hair!  It was an overwhelming show of support for this sometimes hidden disease!  Another job well done at MPS!
