NIPIGON OPP CHARGE MALE WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

 

oppcolourNIPIGON, ON – Monday May 5, 2014 at approximately 7:30 a.m. members of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a mischief at a residence on Hwy 11 and 17, Township of Stirling.  A male reported to police that he woke in the early morning hours and when he attempted to exit his residence he found the door was secured from the outside.  After forcing his way out of the residence, the occupier observed a propane gas line leading from a propane tank located next to the residence had been severed and a source of ignition had been placed beneath the venting propane fuel.

As a result of investigation, Nipigon OPP officers arrested and charged one male of Stirling Township.  49 year old Richard Joseph GRANDBOIS has been charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder,
  • Mischief Endangering Life,
  • Attempt Arson,
  • Damage to Property contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The male remains in custody and is to appear before the court in Thunder Bay, Ontario on May 13, 2014 to answer to these charges.
