Forest Fire Situation Update Northwest Region

There were no new forest fires reported in the Northwest Region between September 20 and 22 and there are no active fires at this time.

The forest fire hazard ranges from low in the southwest and central portions of the region to moderate in sectors of the south central and most of the northern areas of the region. This mix of hazards is expected to continue through the week as sunny days are in the forecast.

This marks a dramatic difference from the previous week when snow was reported.

Sunny skies marked the arrival of the first day of fall on September 22, but it was a different scene on September 17 when snow fell on the Greenstone Fire Management Headquarters base in the Nipigon District. Photo MNR

The public is reminded that outdoor fire management remains their responsibility. There is no day burning of brush and grass. Campfires must be attended and all outdoor fires must be dead out before leaving the site.

Report forest fires in the Northwest Region and the Northeast Region (for areas north of the French and Mattawa Rivers) by dialing 310-FIRE (3473). Southern region forest fires can be reported by calling the local fire department.
