“The Liberal government must end the secrecy surrounding medical tourism in Ontario. Frontline health care professionals can see that the Liberals have quietly opened a backdoor to put profits ahead of patients, threatening to undermine the public health care system we all hold dear. Even the editors of the Canadian Medical Association Journal describe medical tourism as a “risky experiment” and slam this Liberal government’s secrecy.
It’s time for the Minister of Health to end the secrecy surrounding medical tourism for the well-heeled. Ontarians should not be forced to resort to costly Freedom of Information requests just to get answers about this government’s alarming scheme.
New Democrats have always believed that public health care is not for sale. We will continue to fight alongside frontline health care workers to improve access to care for all Ontarians on the basis of need, not the ability to pay.”
