Recruiting Teachers in Northern Ontario and Aboriginal Communities

Province Supporting Education in Northern Ontario

queduOntario is partnering with Teach For Canada to recruit teachers for northern communities, including remote First Nation reserves.

Teach For Canada is a non-profit organization that works with schools in remote communities to recruit, prepare, and retain committed teachers. Teach For Canada will recruit and select 40 teachers who will work in Northern Ontario schools. The project will:

  • Cultivate a new generation of teacher-leaders with a passion for teaching in northern and Aboriginal communities.
  • Develop Northern Ontario as a hub for rural teacher training.
  • Create well-educated, highly-skilled and stable communities that are poised for economic growth.

Supporting northern and Aboriginal communities is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
