Chapleau OPP : Traffic Violation Results in Drug Charges

oppcolourCHAPLEAU, ON – Monday October 5, 2015, at approximately 12:20 pm members of the Superior East Chapleau Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting proactive patrols in the town of Chapleau when they observed a traffic violation.

Investigation revealed that two occupants of the vehicle were in possession of an illegal substance.

As a result an 18yr old male of Chapleau Cree First Nation was charged with the following offences;

  • Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 
  • Adult Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

A second female who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was also charged with the following offence;

  • Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA. 

The accused were both released from custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Chapleau on November 18, 2015.
