Federal Gov’t Investing in the Chapleau Region

govcanadaCHAPLEAU, ON –  The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced January 22, an investment of $836,500 in support of three projects to help the Township of Chapleau capitalize on business and economic development opportunities.

“The investments announced today will help create growth and attract investment in Chapleau’s tourism and mining sectors. This will help strengthen the regional economy, create jobs, and will benefit the businesses and residents of the region. A FedNor contribution of $535,000 will enable the Township of Chapleau to implement a three-phased waterfront renewal project that will help create new tourism opportunities and attract private sector investment. The project, which will be completed over three years, will include engineering and design work, the purchase of new water park equipment, interpretive signage, as well as the creation of boat launching and docking facilities.

An investment of $256,500, provided through FedNor’s Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario (CIINO), will enable the township to hire an economic development officer for a three-year period to implement key economic development and growth initiatives identified in the community’s strategic plan.

The remaining $45,000 will support the development of a mining readiness and growth implementation plan which will aid the community in developing opportunities in the mining sector.
