THUNDER BAY, ON – Confederation College celebrated 43 grade 11 students today by awarding them with conditional offers of acceptance through its unique Confederation Bound: Early Acceptance program. The program is built upon the principle that recipient students be identified by their high schools as needing extra encouragement to pursue post-secondary education. Students in the program come from across Northwestern Ontario.

These early acceptances are meant to motivate recipient students as they near high school graduation and promise them entry into their program of choice as long as admission requirements are met. It also helps to further develop relationships with the College’s secondary school partners.

“We hope that these offers will provide additional incentive and support for secondary school students to take their dreams to the next level with Confederation College,” said Don Duclos, Registrar for Confederation College. “The idea was formed by a committee of staff and faculty at the College to better engage students who may face barriers to accessing post-secondary education. We are proud to report that the program is already meeting its goals and achieving great success.”

This is the third year of the program. The first cohort of Confederation Bound students saw 30 of students enroll at Confederation College last fall, while 26 students from the second cohort will start their post-secondary programs in the fall of 2016.

In addition to receiving early admission, students in the program also benefit from a $1,000 entrance bursary upon enrolling in their post-secondary program.

While at Confederation to receive their early acceptance credential packages, students in the program also got the opportunity to enjoy breakfast together, meet College President Jim Madder, learn about student life and tour the campus, including the areas related to their program of interest.
