Marathon OPP Search For Missing Hunter

OPPcolourMARATHON, ON – On September 26, 2016 at approximately 12:49am Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was contacted regarding a missing 67-year–old male from Marathon identified as Greg WITZELL. The male had left his hunt camp, located 20 kms up the North Regan Road the afternoon of September 25, 2016 on his ATV and had not returned to camp. When the weather became damp and windy, friends he was hunting with began a search.

The search party located the ATV on a trail but there was no sign of the missing hunter.

Officers with the Manitouwadge/Marathon OPP were contacted and immediately attended the area. Due to the weather conditions and the age of the male, members of the North West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K-9 have been deployed as well. Currently, OPP ERT and K-9 are conducting a ground search in the area.

WITZELL is described as a Caucasion male with a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, short white hair and beard, approximately 5’7” and 164lbs. He also wears glasses.
