#CrossoverInsider : This week’s Newly Released Movies/Games & How2 #Win a #MovieNight Gift Basket

Over the past few years, Denis Villeneuve has slowly been gaining a reputation for one of Hollywood’s top directors. The native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec first gained notoriety for his 2009 film “Polytechnique” (about the Montreal school shooting). His 2010 film “Incendies” was nominated for an Academy Award. In spite of their accolades, neither of these movies gained much fame outside of Canada. It wasn’t until 2013 that Mr. Villeneuve’s talents were presented to a broader audience with the major box office release of “Prisoners”- starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. This year, Villeneuve is nominated for another Academy Award for “Arrival”- this week’s headline new release. There are a total of six new movies this week with a brief synopsis of each below;

Arrival: starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker – When twelve mysterious spacecraft land in various locations around the world, a linguistics professor and a scientist are tasked with interpreting the language, and intentions, of the apparent alien visitors. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk: starring Joe Alwyn, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart and Vin Diesel – A 19 year old soldier returns home for a victory tour after a harrowing battle in Iraq. (Drama/War) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent @ 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge

Edge of Seventeen: starring Hailee Steinfeld, Blake Jenner and Woody Harrelson – A struggling High-schooler’s  life gets even more unbearable when her best friend starts dating her older brother. (Comedy/Drama)(DVD) Also available to rent @ 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge

Queen of Katwe: starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o and Madina Nalwanga – Based on a TRUE STORY! A young girl from the ghettos of Uganda sees her world rapidly change after being introduced to the game of chess and quickly developing into a prodigy. (Drama) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Priceless: starring Joel Smallbone and David Koechner – Based on a TRUE STORY! A widower who recently lost custody of his daughter, and finds himself unable to hold down a job, agrees to drive a truck across the country, no questions asked. But when he discovers what he is delivering, he is faced with a life-changing choice. (Drama) (DVD)

Job’s Daughter: starring Eric Roberts and Doris Roberts – A small town seeks answers after a troubled teenager walks into a grocery and shoots dozens of innocent people. (Drama) (DVD)

Sniper Elite  A covert agent and elite marksman must fight alongside the brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to help free their country from Fascism, and defeat a terrifying new threat with the potential to halt the Allied fightback in Europe before it’s even begun.

If his mission fails, there will be no Operation Overlord, no D-Day landings, and no Victory in Europe
