WAWA, ON – February 26 and 27 the boys curling team from École secondaire Saint-Joseph  (Simon Bouffard, Hunter Schumacher, Spencer Terris and Travis Terris) travelled to Hornepayne to compete at the NSSSAA (North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association) curling championships.  The team played very well, taking home the championship banner for the second year in a row.

Their coach, Melissa Terris was pleased with boys’ teamwork, “I am so proud of the players. They were working great as a team. Even though they were defending their title as champions they remained cool and enjoyed themselves,” stated Terris.

March 4 and 5th the team will travel to Fort Frances to represent our region at the NWOSSAA (Northwestern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Associations) finale.

A little confused by the accronyms related to our region’s high school sports?

  • NorWOSSAA : North Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association
  • NSSSAA : North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association
  • SSSAA : Superior Secondary Schools Association)
NWOSSAA can be somewhat confusing as it is the acronym for North Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Associations (title and acronym very similar to that for NorWOSSAA) but  is where the best from the three aforementioned athletic associations (NorWOSSAA, NSSSAA and SSSAA) compete against each other.
OFSAA is the provincial level of competition Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations.
